Continuous Professional Development

 

While entry-level skills and qualifications are important, it is essential that career development practitioners regularly update their knowledge and skills across their professional lives in order that they maintain currency in the field and also provide the best service possible to clients. Professional or Associate members are expected to participate in at least 25 hours of Continuing Professional Development per year across each of the 8 core competencies to maintain their membership status. 

 

Types of Professional development include:

  • Participation in conferences and skill development workshops

  • Reading professional publications and reports

  • Engaging in mentoring or supervision

  • Researching, writing or presenting professional papers

  • Active membership and participation

  • Undertaking further academic study in career development

  • Participating in a relevant capacity buildng study tour or exchange program.
